After completion of my internship at NRS Marketing and Management, I now realize the importance to completing an internship before graduation. The internship enhanced my writing and communication skills and allowed me to use these skills with present job interviews.

I was able to start and finish projects and see where my portion of the project fit into the big picture. An an intern, they depend on you to complete a job, not just file and make copies. Being responsible is the most important characteristic I acquired through the internship. Meeting deadlines and still presenting quality work, admitting when you make a mistake and going above and beyond what you are asked to do are three main areas I have experienced.
My internship was the most interactive "real world" experience I could have received anywhere. Being an intern took hard work, the belief that your work could always be better and the ability to juggle 10 things at one time. No day is ever the same. You learn something new every minute. My biggest advice to anyone is to always ask questions, never assume you the know the answer.

While you may or may not be paid for your efforts, you will receive the reward of seeing your work make a difference. You must take initiative if you want to do anything new or different. There is always work to be done, that may or may not help you build your advertising skills.

She consistently delivered on projects, working hard until coming to solutions and conclusions. She wasn't afraid to ask questions, and therefore, understood her assignments and how they contributed to the progress of the overall account.

Though it is a 29-year old institution, ours is considered by development experts to be an "emerging organization." There is lots of room for creativity and growth in such an environment. To have had a public relations intern in our midst for even a short period reinforced the importance of marketing and reminded each staff member of his/her responsibility to inform others both inside and outside the organization. I hope that we might establish a continuing opportunity for internship.
Communication skills not easily taught, but obviously much needed in this profession. He has been adroit in his communication with media and management of staff and volunteers/interns. I was most impressed with the computer, journalism skills and ethics taught by Sam Houston State University and felt that he demonstrated those admirably in his work. He qualifies as a public relations professional beyond those basic skills through his polite, reserved demeanor and wry wit.

Intern did not allow enough time to receive an adequate experience. An overloaded schedule is the absolute worst time to complete an internship. An internship is a segment of time when a student can simulate the working environment and practice what he/she has learned.

It has proven to be a great experience to work with hr and I feel that she is probably one of the best interns provided by your program. She has been able to successfully apply what she has learned from your program and utilize this knowledge to bring more meaning to the projects she designed and completed.

From the Student...

My first day at the Enterprise is one that I will always remember. Although feeling like the 'new kid on the block' they made me feel comfortable. The editors greeted me personally and assured me that they would be available whenever I needed help...What really shocked me was how the Editor of the paper was such a people-person. Before coming here, I figured the editor would be a stressful, unapproachable person who didn't interact wit h his employees. He was nothing like that.

I must admit that I did spend time answering phones and faxing various things. But I have made a multitude of contacts. I've worked with the beat writer for the Houston Chronicle. I have also met and worked with various talent, directors and producers with ESPN, NBC, Lifetime and various newspaper writers. In my involvement with them I have been able to inquire and gain a focus on other jobs that I may enjoy that would utilize my degree.
