Through the College Cost Reduction and Access Act of 2007, Congress created the Teacher Education Assistance for College and Higher Education (TEACH) Grant Program that provides grants of up to $4,000 per year to students who intend to teach in a public or private elementary or secondary school that serves students from low-income families. This new program was created to assist students that are seeking degrees in high-need fields and anticipate teaching in those fields at the secondary or elementary level. The TEACH Grant program at Sam Houston State University will be implemented during the 2008-2009 academic year for only those students working on their master's degree. Undergraduate juniors and seniors may be offered the TEACH Grant in the 2009-2010 academic year. Students may review more information about the obligations at www.teachgrant.ed.gov.
