Academic Advising: The advisement office is suite 217 in the Teacher Education Center. Students majoring in academic studies and minoring in education or a specialty need to be advised by the education advisors. As students move through the program, they will be assigned a department advisor. The advisors also take care of audits and can answer degree plan questions. To schedule an appointment for advisement please call (936) 294-3384.

Program Admission: All students seeking a teaching certificate will need to apply for the Educator Preparation Program through SamWeb. Certain requirements must be met before a student can be considered regularly admitted to the program. There is a $75 criminal background check fee that can be paid online or in office 217A.

Reading Block: Students must apply for reading block through SamWeb. Once placements have been made, students will receive individual emails so they can register for the appropriate sections.

Methods Block: Students must apply for methods through SamWeb. The student must be regularly admitted to the Educator Preparation Program before an assignment can be made. Once placements hace been made, students will receive individual emails so they can register for the appropriate sections.

Office of Field Experience: The Office of Field Experience places student teachers in schools and monitors the field hours required by some courses. Students will receive more information about field experience and student teaching as they move through the program, or they can go to the Office of Field Experience website.

TExES/Practice Exams: As students reach the end of their course work, they will need to register for the TExES test (over content area) and the PPR test. To learn more about testing dates and preparation materials, please visit the TExES/Practice Exams website or contact Kim McLerran at (936) 294-1045.

Scholarships: Each year the College of Education awards a number of scholarships ranging from a few hundred dollars to four thousand dollars to qualified students in educator preparation. Scholarships are available to both entering freshmen and students in advanced classes. These scholarships are awarded each spring for the next academic year. Careful reading of the scholarship list will help you determine which scholarships you should seek.

The deadline for scholarship applications through the College of Education is February 1, 2010.
