Margaret and R. D. Hopper of Huntsville recently established a
new endowed scholarship to benefit agriculture students at Sam
Houston State University. R. D. graduated from SHSU in 1957 with
a B. S. degree in Agricultural Education and with a Master's degree
in 1963. Margaret (Letts), received her undergraduate degree in
Education in 1960 and her Master's degree in 1973. She was employed
by the Agriculture Department as a student assistant. Her father,
T. C. Letts, served as a professor in the department from 1946
to 1958. He passed away in 1992.
Selection of the Letts-Hopper scholarship recipient is through
departmental committee. We are proud to announce that the first
recipient of this award was Amanda Kimbrell from Spring, Texas.
Amanda is currently serving as the Sam Houston State University
Student Body President.
Scholarships allow us to attract and retain outstanding students
while providing relief from the financial burden of a college education
for many students. If you are interested in establishing a scholarship
endowment or contributing to an existing one at SHSU, please contact
Dr. Bobby Lane, Chair of Agricultural Sciences, 936-294-1225, or
Dr. Gary Bouse, Director of University Advancement, 936-294-3625.
