Ag Freshman National FFA Finalist

Mitzi SmithMitzi Smith is a natural when it comes to speaking. The freshman Agricultural Sciences major from Liberty represented Texas in the Prepared Speaking Career Development Event at the National FFA Convention in Louisville, Kentucky last October. After advancing through intense competition at the district, area and state levels, Mitzi came away from Louisville with the National Bronze Medal. Her speech dealt with the use of pregnant mare urine in medical science.

Mitzi credits her parents, her Liberty High School Ag Teacher, Keith Ming, and her middle school speech teacher, Ms. Partlow, for her success in the event. She has been competing in speaking contests since she was 8 years old.

With a bit of enticement from a departmental scholarship, Mitzi says, "I chose Sam Houston for my college education because I want to become an ag teacher and it has an outstanding agriculture department."

With her intelligence, magnetic personality, cheerful smile and superior communication skills, this young lady is destined for success. We are pleased she chose to join the Bearkat family.
